High tides unearth burial mystery of bronze age childHigh tides and winds that have battered our shores have unearthed a burial mystery for archaeologists. Erosion by the sea and weather has revealed what seems to be the remains of a Bronze Age child. But what puzzled archaeologists was a layer of hard white material which appears to have been moulded around the body, like a casing. Some more details of earlier 'rescue' excavations as the cliff eroded at http://www.pastperfect.info/sites/lowhauxley/archive/ex_intro.html It seems to be a large burial site that is gradually coming to light with each year's erosion. Interesting that it was well inland at the time the peat was laid down. |
