Adam's Grave (Long Barrow) — Fieldnotes

Julian's description of this site in the Modern Antiquarian intrigued me so while I was in the area over the Summer Solstice, I made a point to visit. This place has one of the most incredible views ever. Some people might not even realise that it is a long barrow, but that is not the point with this place. This is a place of position, and to make the climb and get to the top is a wonderful experience. Once you are there, it a place to stay for hours which is exactly what I did. I was by myself, family and friends staying back at Avebury and enjoying the Solstice atmosphere, and for the three hours I was there no one else came. A truly magical experience. Unfortunately, you can't walk from Avebury (unless you have all day). I cycled, and it was challenging (lots of hills and stupid drivers not giving me enough space) but it was still worth it. It felt great not arriving by car.

Men-An-Tol (Holed Stone) — Fieldnotes

I first came here when I was really sad. Things had not been going my way, especially with my health. I was brought here by someone with incredible gift for healing and she often came to this site to assist her. We spent an afternoon and she worked on me. Apparantly the folklore says that if you go through the holed stone three times you will be healed. Well i don't know if that is true or not, but I do know that I felt better just being there. I did go through the holed stone three times and my friend did a lot of work on me that day. And yes it worked. I won't go into what my problems were, but one month later I was fine.
I've been back there many times since and I was so sad to hear that it was recently attacked. I visit many sacred sites on a regular basis, but this one will always hold a special place in my heart.
