A rather beautiful film (not too long) blending history, archaeology and the destruction of the sacred Tara landscape by the motorway.

Irish Minister for the Environment - Actually, we changed the law, now we don't have to preserve and protect national monuments, we just have to measure and photograph them, and then we can destroy them.

Grrr...

My views on the orthostat theory are well-known, so I'll not go into that. The message about the destruction of Tara is a very important one and anything that publicises it is always welcome.

I'd like to know where the 'oldest observatory in the world' is ... apparently it's at Tara!

Thanks for the link - I've not selected the film but, rather, the .pdf. My interest in the Orthostat is partially that there's a tiny piece of probably one in a stone wall in Smithills. That can be used as an example of deleterious development - 'all they've got left of it is a fragment of carved spiral, in a wall, and two cairns on the horizon'.

not good!!!!!
