Hope no one minds me giving this a little plug. Steve Marshall's long awaited book about Avebury is about to go on sale on May 2nd at £14.99 (less on Amazon). Steve has undertaken much research/fieldwork around Avebury and given several talks about the springs of Silbury and Avebury. He will be talking about his book at the Megalithomania Conference on 7th May at 10am. On Sun 8th at 2.45 he will be doing the John Michell Memorial Lecture on archaeoacoustics.

"Avebury in Wiltshire is best known as the world’s largest stone circle, but surrounding it is a wealth of ancient monuments. Captivated by its unique atmosphere, many visitors form a personal, often spiritual, connection to Avebury and its ‘sacred landscape’. What was it that first attracted people to the Avebury area more than 5,000 years ago?

Beautifully illustrated with over 400 photographs, maps and diagrams, Exploring Avebury invites us on a journey of discovery. For the first time the importance of water, light and sound is revealed, and we begin to see Avebury through the eyes of those who built it."

That looks really good, one for the Christmas list. Great job from Steve, after many years of exhaustive research and site visits.

Well done, Steve. Good to see this has finally seen the light of day. :) Looks good! I may well purchase it. :)

My copy arrived today, it looks amazing - not only as an archaeological guide but a work of art, packed with stunning photographs all taken by Steve himself.

To quote Dr Joshua Pollard (archaeologist and author) on the back cover:-
" Not only is this the most beautiful book to be published on the Avebury landscape, but it offers the reader one of the finest introductions to a region remarkable for its stunning prehistoric heritage and understated natural beauty. Steve Marshall has followed in the footsteps of an earlier generation of great Avebury observers and writers such as William Stukeley and A.C. Smith, to produce an account rich in stunning imagery, detailed personal observation and insightful interpretation. This is the essential guide."

Saturday morning, Steve Marshall gave an interview with Sue Davies on Wiltshire Radio. I found it extremely interesting - about 1hr 15mins into the programme (approximately 10 minutes long).
