Sorry to start a new thread for this, but I didn't want it lost in the other one.

I'm going to try to book a B&B for Friday & Saturday nights shortly (don't call me 'Shortly').

But I was thinking that if there's going to be anyone else stopping locally or in say Swindon, we could maybe co-ordinate thangs a bit (I'll be on my own, sniff!!)

Or (at a push) camping?

Mind you, as virtually no-one has said they're definitely going, I guess it shouldn't have been a surprise.

Looks like I'll give the King & Queen at Longcot a try. Anyone know it? (Jane recommended the Eagle at Little Coxwell but it's full of weddingfolk.)

I should be at the picnic on the Saturday.

I would have considered staying over for the weekend, but there`s a megalithic meet on the Sunday (27th) at the Great Orme mines (and surrounding sites) in North Wales, which I will be attending. Anyone else can, too, if they are interested.

If you really did want to camp - judging by todays weather you may wish to reconsider!! - I know it's a bit of a way but you could give Savernake forest a go. Like I said, it is a bit of a way out.

Better still though - note excited tone now!!
You could always do a bit of wild camping on the Rigdeway itself. I know it's not really the done thing, but the rangers can turn a blind eye if for example you get a bit behind schedule & just have to stop for the night - blah, blah, blah.

If you get somewhere off the track it can be a very cool experience. Did it near Barbury castle once, actually did get caught out in the dark honest guv.

don't forget your loo roll!
