I've read somewhere on this wonderful site about a childrens book that tells a fictional story of how the horse was created, but I can't remember where i saw it.

Can anyone tell me the author and the name of the book as i would like to try and get it for my 8 year old.

Thanks for any help.

This is not the book you are looking for about the making of the white horse, but Peter Please's 'The Chronicles of the White Horse' is a lovely book.....

Hiya

It could be this one, I guess:

Sun Horse, Moon Horse by Rosemary Sutcliff.

Might be worth looking into getting it 2nd hand though! Pricey! :)

Not sure if you mean Thomas Hughes, The Scouring of the White Horse (1859)?

It was based on Hughes returning to Uffington to witness the village feast and scouring and was published after the success of Tom Brown's Schooldays, which led to it being one of those great illustrated Victorian books of that period. It is more a light adult's book than an out and out childrens' book, not sure modern kids would think much of it.

Perhaps it is some other more modern book you were thinking of?

A Hat full of Sky
Terry Pratchett

Thanks for all the ideas.

It was Sun horse Moon horse by Rosemary Sutcliffe I was thinking about, and it will have to be second hand looking at that price!

The other books look interesting as well, anyone got any other suggestions?
