Brodgar has a rock-cut ditch doesn't it...are some, or all the the standing stones set into the bedrock as well?

I love Brodgar though have only been there once. I don't know the answer to your question but am sure others do. Will be very interested to read some of the replies to this.

For those interested in Brodgar this is a darn good read. A lot to digest and interesting how ideas are changing all the time. The idea that it wasn't the stone circle that was the important thing because it seemingly had no purpose, but the actual physical building of it was, seems to be an idea that is gaining ground elsewhere. Haven't we heard something similar about Silbury Hill recently? I wonder if that really is the case or is the modern-day archaeo putting his own mark down and pushing aside old ideas?
