Brodgar

For those interested in Brodgar this is a darn good read. A lot to digest and interesting how ideas are changing all the time. The idea that it wasn't the stone circle that was the important thing because it seemingly had no purpose, but the actual physical building of it was, seems to be an idea that is gaining ground elsewhere. Haven't we heard something similar about Silbury Hill recently? I wonder if that really is the case or is the modern-day archaeo putting his own mark down and pushing aside old ideas?

The thought is that because the stones came from various areas this was pulling together for the common good. Myself I think these places one had their own stone circles, which were dismantled when some big honcho took over and then some/all the stones went to Brodgar as signs of compliance.
