Hello I recently read about the so-called 'Living Rock' on Glastonbury Tor which is meant to reasonate if touched at either dawn or dusk.

I didn't know about the rock existance on the two occassions I have climbed the tor. I also read that there is a theory that the rock many have been part of the original henge structure on the top?

Has anyone actually touched this rock at dawn or dusk and felt the vibes?

Jim

I seem to remember that there was a fair bit of discussion here a while back. There are several of these living rocks on the Tor and in the abbey grounds. They are natural rocks eroding from the ground. They appear to grow as the softer rock and soil erodes ands o they were thought to be living. There are similar legends in Hert and Essex where puddingstone boulders gradually emerge from the clay. As they are composed of very many pebbles in a silica matrix, they are said to be "mother stones" as they give birth to smaller pebbles.

Hi Jim

When I lived in Glastonbury i had a friend who used to lead walks around the alleged tor labyrinth - the entrance to the labyrinth is said to be between those living rock stones. He used to say if you walk in between the stones make sure you walk out the same way otherwise a bit of you gets left in the labyrinth!
I've sat on one or t'other plenty of times at both dawn and sunset. Its a fine place to be. The stone further up the path on that side was known locally as the alchemists stone. Another fine place to sit down and look at the view ; )
Further round on the south slope is a larger roundish boulder known as the egg stone.
Ive always known these round stones that come out of the tor as egg stones and find it interesting that elsewhere they are known as mother stones.
