Falmouth

close

Maybe in Falmouth for a week, with limited use of a car.

Where do I go? What are your recommendations, if you don't mind?

Plus its about time someone mentioned Cornwall.

Cornwall

Depends how mobile you are, but on the Lizard peninsular you've got a few sites to choose from:
3 Brothers of Grugith (behind the petrol station)
Crousa Common Stones
Wendron 9 Maidens (only 4 or 5 left)
Burras Menhir

Further afield you can get into Penwith proper and the treasures there are too many to list here. Check out mine, Paul1970 and PureJoy's weblogs for further details...

In the misc section of :- Trewardreva Fogou
http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/browse.php?site_id=1615

PureJoy entered this :- Craig Weatherhill’s ‘Cornovia: Ancient Sites of Cornwall and Scilly’ (Cornwall Books - 1985, revised 1997 & 2000) calls this ‘Piskey Hall Fogou’ (the OS map calls it 'Pixie's Hall')and gives it a good mention,

Thought it's worth a mention.

If you can get to Godrevy beach -(North Coast, not far from Falmouth) it's worth it. No real TMA liks but a staggeringly beautiful beach witha picture-perfect lighthouse on an insland about half a mile offshore and regular seal sightings.

Gets a bit touristy, so get there early on and you'll get the whole place to yourself.

Failing that, a boat trip over to St Mawes is fun.

I feckin' hate feckin' Cornwall. The feckin' place is feckin' full of feckin' c*nts!

Ma brother lives there and he's a bit of a neolithic relic very much in the keltiC sense of the word! Just don't go out drinking with him! u have been warned !
blablabla red wine always makes me talk shite sorry! I'll go now sorry sorry. (as he bows his way out)
I AM not ere*

Best waiting till later in the day for visiting the better known places, the tourists get scared when the daylight dissapears, theres rumour thats when all the witches come out!!..hehehe...visit 'Boscawen-un' on the full moon and youll soon realise the rumour is actually a fact!, hehe!.I find after 7pm ish best if you want to be on your own, late i know but worth it!, it helps too if you visit these places when the tide is on the 'push'(coming in)..find a 'fogou'(halligye fogou is a good example) if you can, Boliegh is the best but you have to ask Jo at the CAER prior to visiting...sit inside one and that alone will make the journey to Cornwall worthwhile!.

Hoorah!

I went to Lands End, and laughed at the signs which say:

DANGEROUS CLIFF

WELCOME TO LANDS END

>THIS WAY

TOUCHED AN ANIMAL? NOW WASH YOUR HANDS!

Signs are amusing. I think I'm going to make some signs and post them around my house.

I sat at Men-an-Tol (well crouched between two gorse bushes cos it was bloody cold and windy) and attempted to paint, only I HATE ACRYLICS cos they dry far too quickly. And I only had a cardboard box to paint on cos it was Good Friday and the art shop was shut.

But that was cool.

Got frightened by a large black labrador whilst my head was stuck in my painting, it came bounding up barking. Shit the life out of me, so I jumped up squealing, and spotted the dog owner and abused him thoroughly with my Midlandic language. Suprisingly enough he didn't apologise.

Then I got paranoid, packed up and left. To be greeted by a dead adder on the way out.

Also went to Boleigh Fogou, Lanyon Quoit and the Merry Maidens.

Boleigh was heavy, but sweet. Definately a place for Piskeys! Its almost in someones garden? They obviously take good care of it. Lanyon was incredible, and the Merry Maidens were fun. Well I ran about laughing lots there anyways.

Trouble is, unless you're prepared to hitch/yomp everywhere, without a car its difficult getting around.

And when the sun is warm... theres nothing like the peace when crashing on the beach to the sound of waves and waking up with sand stuck to your face ;)

Had a grate weekend, I did.
