The villagers should get in touch with the local council, and the local branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) http://www.camra.org.uk/ and click on "CAMRA near you". To convert a pub to houses you need to get a change of use policy approved by the council. You have to be able to prove that the pub is unviable as a business, and deliberately running a pubs business down doesn't count. CAMRA have been very successful in opposing such changes of use in the past.

Sad news - didn't we have a TMA lunch there a few years back with 23, GM, NOTD, Lissy and Toni Torino? - Think I have some pictures from the beer garden kicking around somewhere.
Didn't the pub host some annual village event? Can't quite remember what but I know you mentioned something at the time.

Reminds me of the time we had a Loop in one room and a ZZ in the other and we sent the Debski family up there ... dunno why, it just reminds me of it .... why doesn't someone grab the Winterbourne Monkton loop road ... pull it hard and turn the New Inn Old Inn new home into an old time new Inn road house?
Anyway ... does anyone know anything about the Avebury - Monkton corpse road along the Winterbourne?
