OK fellow Northerners (and visiting Southerners!), just wondering if it isn't time we organised a bit of a meet of our own, somewhere in the depths of darkest Cumbria? Why should those soft southerners have all the fun? An afternoon of food and banter set amidst the splendour of one of Cumbria's finest sounds like quite a good idea to me.

Any takers? Suggestions for time and place welcome

Cheers

Ha! That sounds good Mr V - time some of us down here had a ganders at wot's up there :-) And maybe we can have a compo to see who does the best T-shirt design ;-)

Is this in Cumbria please, my geographical knowledge falls short once I leave the sheltered south ;) though I note loads of people go there anyway, must be like Avebury.....

I reckon it's got to be twixt Castlerigg and Long Meg. Really, for folks making the journey from afar, who've never seen either, they'd have to see both. Though I'd reckon Long Meg would be better to spend a couple of hours at for a collective blether, (less busy, bigger and there's Little Meg too) then nip down to Castlerigg for a quicker look-see, possibly stopping off at Mayburgh.

Then if folk were up for spending the night in Cumbria, a visit to Langdale, offering the opportunity for Copt Howe and a glimpse at the Pike O Stickle, as it would give an excuse to stay at the ODG (or adjacent campsite).

Hi Vicster (and other friends in the North)

I was hoping we could settle the date of the Avebury meet by Xmas as people will be starting to plan holidays etc soon, so it would be helpful if you could put your minds to a date soon to avoid a clash.

Traditionally we usually meet in late June though I was thinking maybe mid July this year to maximise the chances of decent weather but we'll fit in if you were thinking of that period.

Btw,

is anyone on here going to this?

I am.

Without having to read/reread this thread, is there a date set yet?

....this event is listed

I've just finished a (rather amateur, but fun) movie of our weekend chasing stone circles in Cumbria, and posted it as a blog here:

I couldn't get the YouTube code to embed, so I just made a link instead. Hope you enjoy it. It's 7 mins 47 seconds long and has an appropriate soundtrack! (JC of course!)
