Kilmartin rules!

ha-ha! Just when I thought I would never see a stone standing upright in conjunction with others ever again!

Kilmartin is fantastic - we had great fun, trekking up and down in howling gales, falling into ditches, abandoned castles, alpacas, everything

We stayed at my mate's b&b - http://www.ford-house.com/ - which I can't recommend enough. I'm biased, but it was excellent.

hooray for Kilmartin!

Thats on my places of Must visit soon!
Gerald Hawkins wrote that there is a lunar alignment in
his book Mindsteps to the Cosmos so I want to create some panos to check it out.
I'll deffo check your mates B&B (do I get a discount if I mention you?) ;)

Well, well! Moth and me are off to Kilmartin in June enroute back from Orkney. We'll definitely stay here. Sounds great.
Thanks RG

It is indeed class in a glass - its the setting for much of Iain Banks book The Crow Road too.

Kilmartin IS fantastic. I spent a week there a couple of years ago with a bunch of mates in a house in Ford and still didn't get to see everything. You can't walk for more than a few minutes without tripping over something prehistoric!

We noticed too that the barrows are all placed at a spliffs distance from each other... just as you finish one, there's a nice bit of shelter to roll another... a measurement that came to be known as the neolithic toke :)

There's also a very nice craggy coastline nearby too.

Ah- RG! How ya doin???
Kilmartin- tis indeed a dream landscape for the Modern Antiquarian. I spent about a week in those parts camped a few miles up the coast. I'd also recommend a visit to the Kilmartin House Museum to start the day off and finishing atop Dunadd, just looking and wondering. Inspiring place.
