Hi, this is my first posting. I'm doing some research on possible Neolithic incised stones in and around my property. I have a stone which is very similar to stone 1 from Baildon Moor (how do I attach an image?). I would appreciate any (constructive) comments and opinions. This and other stones here have drawn some interest from the archaeological fraternity but a consensus of opinion seems to be impossible to achieve (what's new?).

Hi Jim,
If you send me the photo(s) by e-mail, I could make a link to it for this post.

Here you go, my friend!

http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/submission_guidelines/ - About half way down the page...

Thing to remember is to make sure it's a Jpeg, and the longest edge is no more than 720 pixels...

Good luck! And welcome to TMA!

Hi Folks,
The Baildon Moor-1 stone is the Dobrudden Caravan park stone:

The stone which Jumble Jim found:

Let the look-alike contest start!
Cheers,

The stone (and others) is located near Alford in Aberdeenshire. The site has so many potentially marked stones that I have lost count. It has the appearance of an ancient settlement platform on the edge of what would have been a glacial meltwater lake (evidence for fossil shorelines). Some archaeologists who have seen the stones and the location have suggested that they may either represent the remains of a cairn, or of a stone circle. In addition, there may also be remnants of early Christian cross fragments and grave stones, and there are the foundations of a rather intriguing building under my lawn (found by resistivity survey). Most of the stones were initially discovered on spoil heaps generated as my property was renovated, and they seem to have been incorporated into the present building which dates from 1820. I'm obviously recording everything as meticulously as I can as I go along.

Hello Jim , I havn't seen this one and it does looks a bit different from the others around your house , which , as mentioned previously I believe to be possibly carved by man but not in the "cup and ring" marked traditon . This new one however does look like it may fit into latter group but i'm not convinced I'll have to come up and have a look as it wouldn't be fair to judge it on the pic alone . It does appear to marked on more than one surface which is not unknown but not too common either .One other point about cups marked in granite is that they are often quite deep asif to make up for the difficulty of doing anything more inticrate . I'll get in touch with James and drop by again if that's ok .
