I'm off to stay with a friend a few days in a couple of weeks. She likes a bit of stone action too, and has suggested getting some visiting in whilst I'm with her (top friend! ;-) ). I've visited only a small handful of sites in this area, working out of TMA on rushed day trips (not sure where she has been) - so where shall we head??

She stays between Stonehaven and Aberdeen, and I don't want to ask her to drive miles and miles, as I'm arriving sans car and can't share the load.

Thank you in advance! :-D

Raedykes, or drive up the Slug Road to Banchory loads of cairns and RSCs in the Mulloch Hill area. 4 circles at Cairnwell to the north, plenty of standing stones as well.

edit. On the Southside of Aberdeen you have Tollohill, Kincorth and a nice walk that involves the 5 cairns on Tullos Hill.

Take your pick!

Cothiemuir Wood and Sunhoney still haunt me...

Drew's the authority here, as you'll gather from his awe inspiring volume of Aberdeenshire posts...

However I found Raedykes a real hidden treasure... ditto the Clune Hill RSC off the B9077 near Kirkton of Durris (the Garrol Wood and Esslie circles are also nearby - three for the price of one). Nearer Aberdeen there are the Aquhorthies circles, with Dyce (Tyrebagger) just to the NW a real beauty.

Innumerable others in the not too distant locality (Balgorkar, Loanhead, East Aquthorties, Balquain)... perhaps my favourite, though, is the circle at Sheldon. Have a good one.
