The I Love Lewis

close

Got back a couple of weeks ago from the Isle Of Lewis... only just able to talk about how mindblowing it was!

Anyone here with even the slightest interest in ancient sites, you mustmustmust visit the Callanish complex - easily the most enchanting place I'll ever see...

The colours in the Lewis landscape are amazing, the turquoise of the sea, the whiteness of the sands... wow...

The Cailleach na Monteach - incredible... beautiful at Callanish, pregnant at Achemore! The other circles in the area also impressive, as Lewissian gneiss is a lovely stone - and the oldest in the world (although I thought that was Charlie Watts!). I was so moved I wrote a poem:

Don't talk to me about the Moon says Gearraidh n-Aibhne
It must have come down too soon, before the weather was fine
Gearraidh n-Aibhne says "I'm a shambles for the damsel on the skyline
Here's something to keep your eyes on - my love lies on the horizon
And the bedrock that she lies on is very gneiss"!

Just can't wait to go back there...

Cheers
Matt

hey Matt!
You're preaching to the converted here. Quite a number of people from here went up there is summer... including me!
