The Great Bank

close

I'm sure this won't be massively popular with those of you who like the name 'Silbaby', but the TMA Eds are contemplating changing the name of the site to 'The Great Bank' (as it is named in the map that Pete G posted). Silbaby will then be added as an 'alternate' name to the site.

Can you live with that?

It's a shame, as Silbaby makes me smile every time I hear it! One thing though, The Great Bank or Girt Bank may equally refer to the bank it's built against, not Silbaby itself.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Thank God for that! I'd take it a step further and drop the ridiculous name 'Silbaby' altogether. 'The Great Bank' is spot on until it's been studied more carefully.

Sounds good to me.

Fine - would the eds. consider phoning a moderate newspaper ? "Found: one prehistoric monument, or part of a monument, near Avebury".

There is a man with an obsession of prehistoric astronomy and he is collating the various lunar observatories worldwide on one of his websites ( http://www.iol.ie/~geniet/maeshowe/eng/3rdstone.htm ). He has twelve so far (including Callanish and Smithills). I'll email him and suggest that we have identified the lunar alignments he is interested in and 'have begun investigations'.

(Local news: Houghton Common circle to S. Crags = lunar maximum set; Ridley Common to S. Crags = sunrise Mar. 11 & Oct 1).

I don't think the name change should be too much of an issue at this stage. Silbaby may or may not be "The Great Bank", but until we know for sure - does it matter too much? At least it's brought attention to the poor blighter!

Can you hold back on that until the end of the week?
I am sorting out an article in the local press for thursday.
If they pick up on the name then lets stick which Silbaby.
If they don't then the Great Bank is ok my me.

What about the "West Kennet Great Bank" as a full name?

What's so bloody great about it anyway?
