I was thinking last night, has any more work been done (or is any due to be done) to discover what Silbaby is/was? Since the initial excitment died down I haven't heard any more - or have I just missed something?

Thanks in advance...

yes.
EH are now very interested in it and an investigation is being considered.
The archaeo's I spoke with also call it Silbaby :)
More later....

Mooching through an article in WAM on Google, I found the following ..

"dug into what is called a druid's barrow which happened to be on the line they had selected"

the note referring to this also states..

"From Stukeley's description and 9th plate, it would appear that they also helped themselves very freely to the crown of a barrow now planted on the other side of the road"

Could it be?.... the bit about Silbury/Silbaby is on the latest Silbury link page 341 ..

...And forgive my ignorance here - but who was it that first propounded this site as a potential prehistoric one, and who gave it the name Silbaby?

Cheers - Paul

I was just wondering who owns Silbaby. Is it Lord Avebury?

If not it would be nice if it was somebody else with an interest in the local archaeology.
