A TOURIST is critically ill in hospital today after he was struck by lightning near Keswick.

The 32-year-old, from Maidstone in Kent, was visiting the Castlerigg Stone Circle when he was hit by the lightning bolt just before 2pm yesterday.

First aid was administered by members of the public at the scene before paramedics arrived. He was then airlifted to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle by the air ambulance.

A police spokesman said: "His condition this morning is critical."

That's terrible.

I noticed last month whilst on Orkney there was a broken stone at Brodgar, a notice said it had been hit by lightning. Wow! are there any other reports of Stone Circle lightning strikes!

Have we picked a dangerous hobby?
