I reported this in the News section a couple of weeks back and am bringing it to the forum to hopefully give it wider attention.

The Wiltshire Heritage Museum in Devizes has the best Bronze Age collection in the country; it is not a free entry museum though the entrance fee is affordable. Any ideas on how they can raise money in the short term - putting their entrance fees up is probably not the best option in terms of attracting new visitors.

If the place has a decent hall try and get some solo musicians to do gigs. Martin Stephenson, James Grant (Love and Money), Lloyd Cole etc have all done little gigs up in this corner for various wee halls.

On a sad note, Archaeolink at Oyne near Inverurie is up for sale. Probably get knocked down for houses. A great shame for Aberdeenshire and it's useless politicos.

It's very sad than when public interest in prehistory is probably greater than it's ever been (if the raft of TV series that have been on over the last couple of years is any indication), that such a valuable collection is having to fight to survive. I hate to say it, but the problem may be partly due to the fact that it's based in a relatively small town, rather than being in London.

Publicity is clearly needed, but you have to get people to go to Devizes in the first place - perhaps they could link up more with other local attractions?

So where does the museum suggest one vents one's indignance? It would be a shame to have it go to waste.
