An urgent message from the Nine Ladies protestors.

-------
Have just heard they've been served papers today and are in court
this Thursday (22 Jan) for possession order.

People are urgently needed to help sort out defences, and to be
there if eviction follows shortly after. Climbers have and are being
approached.

Please spread the word to anyone who might be able to help

Cheers

sorry if I'm being thick, but what does this mean? Is something terrible about to happen to the monument itself, or are they just trying to get people to stop camping there?

(I have to say, when I went there years ago I thought the way people were camping amongst the stones and lighting fires and generally making other visitors feel like they were intruding, was not particularly nice in my opinion)

It'll be a terrible shame if the quarry goes ahead.
Nine Ladies is one of they places where, as soon as you walk around it, you can see why 'they' built it 'there'. The surrounding area seems to be as much part of the circle as the stones and the immediate ground round the stones.

It's one of those circles where the lay of the land almost leads up to it in a way.
It really is a spectacular area and the stones are harmonising with it. Be terrible if it's all quarried to death.

I've signed things in the past about this development (have mates in Buxton which is not too far). Oddly enough a mate texted me yesterday to say the protest had taken something if a bad turn.

Paws and stuff crossed!

HA hasn't discussed this but my entirely personal view would be that even if it was geared up to do so it shouldn't support this campaign. It's not about not supporting the aim, which I'm sure everyone does, or arguing about if the methods will pay off better than being polite, which they may, but the fact that HA can't risk supporting stuff that might enable our "opponents" in other campaigns to discredit us with.
HA has to take a "self interested" view of what's best for Silbury and Thornborough for instance and not allow the opportunity for the public mind to be clouded with the idea that whatever images that Nine Ladies puts on the screen is what we're about. Our arguments are pretty strong and it would be a shame to have them defeated by smearing us.

We've already agreed we should support "responsible ethical action" and that, in our particular neck of the protest woods, is what we should specialize in, IMHO.
Sorry to discuss HA stuff here, but the Great Divide in protest tactics is relevant to TMA.

Have just received news, court hearing has finished, the sheriff and climbers etc are awaiting warrent only.

Eviction as soon as they've got it.

PEOPLE NEEDED ASAP

:(

Can't believe it's happening, those beautiful woods - if you know anyone who can get there please spread the word, thanks.
