Ireland

close

I'm going to visit Ireland at the end of next September/early October for my honeymoon, so want to spend some time visiting sites - what would you recommend?

The plan is to fly into Dublin, then fly out of Shannon, so journey will be clockwise around the coast, with lots of walks and pubs!

Obviously it is my honeymoon, so can't spend the ENTIRE time looking at stones (!!), but my lady appreciates them as well so can go to some (as long as we do some castles/abbeys as well)

Help please

Hmmmmmm... honeymoon...
Well if the weather has been ok and it's not too swampy I think the romance of Uragh is hard to beat.
If, as a newly married couple, you want tips on garden landscaping, I recommend beaghmore.
If you have a tiff and want to silently call your new wife names, go to Labbacallee (just don't tell her what the name means)
and if the weather is grotty go to the Gap of Dunloe in Killarney. Like something from a fairytale, it's not a monument, but like the Lake District it's a landscape that just seems to get more beautiful as the weather gets worse.

Well I'm not so good with the stones in those regions (criminal I know!) but the Limerick area in the shannon region has some great castles. King Johns (which I live in sight of) is worth a visit - if a little touristy, and likewise with Bunratty. Both nice castles. Balina/Kilaloe and that Lough Derg area has some great stuff but bawn79 would be the man to talk to there. Obviously the Rock of Cashel is great too if you can get to there...and like churches.

Ireland has a plethora of Standing Stones, and the only ones I know in particular are the ones in the Cork area etc that are in the ME. I visit them whenever I'm back out there, which is pretty often. A trip round the southwest is a must. The most mystical part of Ireland, in my opinion.
Anyway, congratulations to you both !
