Hi folks,

I am sure someone can help me with this one!

When visiting sites previously not recorded on TMA I use the COFLEIN map when in Wales and the CANMORE map for sites in Scotland.
Can anyone tell me or even better provide a link for the equivialent sites in England?

This would ensure any 'new' sites are recorded under the correct name.

Thanks (as ever) for any help you can give.

The equivalent to the other national sites is http://www.pastscape.org/textpage.aspx but it is a bugger to use

Well, I usually use the magic map
http://magic.defra.gov.uk/
- you have to 'choose your own topic' first and select 'scheduled monuments'.

Also depending on which county you're interested in, there are various historic environment record interactive maps, sometimes they have more detail on. The Heritage Gateway has got a handy list so you can see which ones have their own sites
http://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/gateway/chr/default.aspx

- like Somerset's got its own and I rather like it

but there's also a kind of catch-all map on the Heritage Gateway, you have to narrow things down a bit to get it to work properly I think?. And you can put in OS references, although it doesn't look like it, you have to click at the bottom.

Ok so I may be slightly map-obsessed, Carl.

EH have kept relatively quiet about their equivalent of the Magic Map, which launched about 6 months ago. It doesn't have all the tools of Magic , but its super fast and allows access to SAM reports:

Just a pity EH decided to issue new SAM numbers with little consultation. Its rightly caused a stink.
