An ancient bog body has been discovered at a midland bog where a similar find was made two years ago.
The remains were found by a Bord na Móna worker at Rossan Bog on the Meath/Westmeath border on Saturday morning.
A Bord na Móna spokesman said: “The remains of a bog body were found in Rossan Bog two miles from Kinnegad on the Meath and Westmeath border.”
The spokesman said the employee discovered the remains prior to beginning work and immediately put Bord na Móna’s protocol in place.
From the Irish Times:
National Museum of Ireland Director Raghnall Ó Floinn welcomed the new discovery and said, “every new find helps to bring us closer to understanding the lives and belief systems of our ancestors.”
I guess it's because our bogs are 'working' bogs that more of these bodies are found here. It seems like there's a new report every few months. I'm thinking that the consensus here would be that this is a good thing but wonder is there a counter-argument? Anybody?
Well before this it may be that finds were going unreported?
