Fine pic(s)...and I must admit I didn't know about this site. My first reaction when seeing this pic was how much it reminded me of Droughduil in Dumfries and Galloway. There are other identical mounds, unexcavated, lurking in the forestry there.
Thanks spencer. I see what you mean about Droughduil. That is big! Looking on CANMORE the map indicates a motte nearby, possibly a large re-used BA mound?
Who knows...there's another large mound out in farmland on the North Rhins that I'd like to check out. I wonder if Bartlow's mounds were enlargements of earlier totally kosher ones. Glad they're on TMA: as has been observed elsewhere: phwoar!

Could be re-used. The Saxons re-used many prehistoric mounds, supposedly recognising their sacredness (or were they just a bit lazy?).
