Mike, stealing Silbury Hill and then hiding it in a wood in Galloway, brilliant idea. Send this photo down to the Avebury folk with a ransom demand - there's money to be made here if they want it back!
: D Nah..Galloway deserves it more. .and there's two more of these beasts in the Torrs Warren woods that look identical but not ID'd as mounds as this was only recently. Just wait till you see my other pix from my foray...just home, viral and pooped. But fulfilled.
Anyway, Silbury doesn't turn blue, just stays boring green...dull, dull, deeply dull... ; )
What's VERY clear is that some kind soul has taken action to clear bracken from it since your last visit - hence the bluebell explosion!
But you're right, it is an extraordinary season for bluebells this year up here in Galloway (and hopefully, elsewhere too!)
Got to admit I was totally enraptured. . seemed to be I'd hit THE perfect week for them...and when mingled with the flowers and heady scent of the whins, the fresh greenery and birdsong in mating season: sensory overload. Pix up when I sort out cantankerous phone. Maybe even fieldnotes (!)
