Yeah, this was a bonus final site on a long walk, it's not on the map and I didn't know it was there until I passed it. Amazing what you can stumble upon!
You'll like it, obviously. I didn't enjoy the descent from here to Llanfairfechan very much, the path was slippery and steep and it was getting dark. I started this walk by following directly in your footsteps (Pen y Castell then Drum).
Sadly it was the walk where I really started to notice my foot problem, but the ridiculous winds kept me distracted; reading your notes it sounds exactly like the winds on your last trip there. I did look at Foel Fras, which I have yet to climb, but it would have been far too much, especially in a near-gale as it was lower down. I still have that, Carnedd Uchaf and Llwytmor to visit at some point (as well as Yr Elen and a couple of satellite summits) so I need to get this stupid foot sorted. Times a-tickin'!
Hopefully, all the blood from my hand on Pen y Castell had washed away! Seriously, I've not been 'fit' since 1995... all kinds of muscle issues, asthma etc... but you adjust and do what you can do... until you can do no more.
So keep on keeping on TSC. Speaking of Llwytmor, I ascended direct from Llyn Anafon, which wasn't the easiest, shall we say? Probably best if you can take it on the way back on a circular to Foel Fras... maybe coming up from Aber Falls along the Afon Goch.
Ha, well I didn't notice any huge bloodstains, so probably so. That sounds like a reasonable route. I noticed from the OS that the path we both took to Pen y Castell seems (in theory anyway) to lead onwards to climb the flank of Foel Fras, but it looks like an almighty slog!
Some great kerbing going on :-)

I love these places when its beginning to get light or dark.
Adding this to the list.... like you, had no idea it was there.

Nice one. I do like Pen y Castell... although Drum looks much easier from there than it is. Plus lots of bog... Top walk, as usual.
