To my surprise, the church is now a home! Didn’t meet anyone on my visit but also didn’t enter the former churchyard. I found the smaller of the two stones then walked around like an idiot looking for the big one for a while until I went back to my car and it was right next to it :)
Reminds me of a pleasant afternoon spent with a pal in Kent looking for Wayland’s Smithy, let’s just say sometimes the stones can lead us on a merry old dance.
I'd forgotten all about this one, we had a lovely visit there with drew. I think this was still a church then (2012). Nice to be reminded, thank you.
@TSC just met drew today! we went up searching cairns near tain, a brilliant day out. he said he had played music in the church so it seems to have been sold off recently.
Ah, wonderful! We've had some absolutely terrific days out with drew, I would love to get back up there and see him again. I've just been re-uploading some larger versions of the photos from one of our days out with him in 2012, including Old Rayne (we went to loads of sites that day, from Insch).
oh cool :) i was suggesting we organise a northeast TMA meetup in summer, maybe something related to the recumbent stone circles which circle insch? or whatever really. would be great to meet up!
Would be wonderful, but unlikely we'll get there this summer; Insch is a long way from Gloucestershire sadly :)
