Hi everyone. I live just down the road in the castle-like house nearby to the Stones. Today (10th Jan 07) two men knocked on my door from English Heritage. They proceeded to tell me that a large tree on the site has a deadly fungus and it has to be removed. Although I have full access to the site, (as the woodland backs onto my front garden) I shamefully have never visited it.... so I wonder if removing the tree will make an impact on the ambience of the place??

I have just read your post and am amazed to see you live in that funny house. I have often driven past the stones and wondered who lived there. I used to live in Dorset but am currently in Bedford (or Deadford as we say round here). How does it look without the beech tree?? And how on earth do you get to live in such an unusual place??

allthough I have never visited the stones, I was enlightened years ago by a very old gentleman in the pub on the main road, who had lived and farmed in the village all his life that the stones were known to him as the nine sisters. These sisters were a covern of witches who took it upon themselves to summon a demon and steal some or all of the powers from the demon. Unfortunatelly having successfully summoned a demon, the demon turned them to stone for their audacity. Daphead x
