The western defences are unfortunately much more denuded... although nonetheless recognisable. Carnethy Hill rises majestically beyond.
The Pentland Hills rise beyond the northern defences... well worth a wander since there’s cairns, hillforts and battle sites to be found there.
Eastern outer defences, looking approx north. Note that an army firing range can be seen beyond...
Outer eastern flank, looking approx south.
Turnhouse & Carnethy Hills rise to the approx south-west, both crowned by ancient cairns... the latter a massive example.
When visiting the Souterrain there are several signs stating where you can and can’t go and warning signs about ‘live firing’ etc. It was getting late and I didn’t have time to have a good look around to see which (if any) parts of the Hillfort you can access. There are decent views to have all around from this high point.
