Re-discovered in 1981, Ash Cabin Flat Stone Circle is normally very difficult to find, and difficult to see, once found. This year (2009) the heather has been burnt back giving an opportunity to get a good look at this oval of stones measuring between 4.5 and 5.5 meters diameter. It is difficult to know how many stones make up the circle as many of them might have been incorporated within the henge as a ‘pavement’ in the original design.
No trees. !

Called in at the circle today and found they’ve cut all the trees down.!
The moor and the circle look very different, not sure i like it, though it is nice to know the circle wont suffer from root damage now.
When we first visited the site the area had suffered from a fire (always an advantage for stone hunters). Tis tricky to locate.
Park at the car park at Redmires Plantation SK269858. From here follow the path for about 300m up the bank thru’ the trees onto the moor, then turn off away from the wall on your left. Bash thru’ the heather for 100m or so and have a good look round, it’s small and tricky to spot. Probably best seen in winter.
