Daily Telegraph 12.12.02 says that “the Council for British Archaeology, the International Council for Monuments and Sites UK, the National Trust, the Stonehenge Alliance and Save Stonehenge will all be expected to call for a longer tunnel at a public inquiry into the scheme next year.”
Wowee... this place is SERIOUS. Comparing this place to most of the circles I’ve seen is like comparing a punk rock gig to a chamber music concert. The stones are just wild – amazing browny-orange hues that look like crouching animals. I’m not sure I’d even dare to come here on a full moon – you could almost hear the power crackling away even on a grey Sunday afternoon.
All the more amazing because of the picture-postcard English village setting... imagine taking tea at the vicar’s and he gets out his collection of shrunken heads to show you – that kind of vibe.

Reading my old, tattered and much-loved copy of the ‘Reader’s Digest Guide to Folklore, Myths and Legends of Britain’, I had to laugh... Men-an-Tol is described as the ‘entry to a burial chamber’... ahh, bless...
Seriously – does anyone know of a site where a holed stone like this – which must have taken a phenomenal amount of work to create – is used just as a doorway?
