Beardown Man

Standing Stone / Menhir

I stand on high,
Staring out, across the open moor,
Through countless seasons,
Weatherbeaten, alone, aloof
My kingdom intact

Revered and worshipped,
As the morning sun, once was i,
But now abandoned, and discarded
amongst the landscape litter,
For i am Beardown Man

Men-An-Tol

Holed Stone

This Photo was taken during the year of the Eclipse,
and as you can clearly see, the black markings on the holed stone, is where someone has poured an unidentified liquid and set it alight.

Scorhill

Stone Circle

Scorhill stands alone,
Erupting from the ground,
In need of some repair
Like an old man’s denture’s
Gnarled and broken

Scorhill, a stone circle
Of times past, a gift of history
A forlorn but not forgotten relic
That nestles amongst the landscape
That is Dartmoor.

Cist

another cist for Chittaford Down, as you can clearly see, vastly overgrown, but you can make out the stones around the cist, according to Jeremy Butler’s Dartmoor Atlas of Antiqiuties there should be one more cist on Chittaford Down but has since dissappeared since it was recorded in the 1890’s

Archerton, Newtake

On a cold and wet day I decided to take a photo of this cairn and cist, but could I find it? Could I hell! Considering it’s not to far from Roundy Park Cairn and cist. There’s nothing unusual itself about the site, except that when it was excavated there was charcoal and an archers wrist gaurd made of slate found within.

West Kennet Long Barrow

I agree with akasha (10 March 2004) about “ritual litter” When I visited the barrow I was preceeded by a couple of “new Agers” who were coming down the path as I was going up. Nothing wrong with that you say, as I entered the barrow I was confronted by billowing smoke and I could hardly see a thing. These bloody awful people had only lit half-a-dozen (birthday cake) candles and left a votive offering of a dog biscuit. Ruined my day!
