Spring (or late winter) 1991. Taken with Black+White film.
B/W photo from June 1986, note how ‘trimmed’ Old Oswestry was then.... It was also rather more silent then it is now constructed.....The new A5 road which bypassed Oswestry, also added a lot traffic sounds to this site by bringing the A5 nearer... shame.
One of two hut circles(the 2nd though no stones are visible, is above the 1st) on the Eastern edge of the fort outside the walls , of a later (?’dark age’?) date... (I’m looking North in the photo) Should be easy to see in this aerial photograph gtj.org.uk/en/blowup1/1220
, look outside the ramparts at lower end of the satt. photo:
Note in the aerial photo the little holes in the ramparts, one of those (to the left) shows the bit of exposed dry stone walling in one of my photos. (I think!)
Looking Westwards, late afternoon on the 12th October 2006 from the NE corner of the fort.
12th Oct 2006 From the North East corner of the fort (in the ‘gatehouse’) looking Westwards. Northern rampart below.
12th Oct 2006 Looking from the interior of the fort , North Eastwards (so the North East rampart in view)
12th Oct 2006 Piece of ancient (IronAge?) dry stone walling ,in the South East Rampart.
9th Oct 2006 Looking NE, through the NE ‘gateway’(?) of Caer Drewyn. The modern cairn on the left has appeared since the last time I came up here ( 9 years ago). “Gatehouse” being torn to bits as a result.
