The London Stone can be seen much better now from inside the building. The former bank is now a sports shop and you can go in and see the stone very well lit, but behind glass.

There are numerous cairn graves on Castle Down, but among them are well defined entrance or chamber tombs.

Superb capstones still in place

A superb entrance grave

Possibly a defensive wall across Castle Downs
This one is a real beauty, but not easy to reach.. It is set in a commanding position overlooking the cannle between Bryher and Samson. From below, it can be reached from the coast path, but the brambles and bracken are fierce. The best approach is by climbing Samson Hill and then it can be sen from above.

and the same kist 30 years ago. circa 1970

Entrance passage and fine capstone.

The same kist today.

Very fine box kist on North Hill. This was taken 20 years ago – today it is lost beneath bramble

North Hill of Samson contains numerous burial chambers and a very fine cist. Access is now difficult because of nesting terns and ongoing archaeology
