I wouldn't say it is the most unfriendly Parish in the U.K. but you would have to go a long way to beat Mrs Alford who farms in the Merrivale area on Dartmoor. She has closed off Vixen Tor , with barbed wire , keeping the public away from a fine kist. She took the styles away from an area enclosed by a newtake wall which contains Prehistoric, Medieval and industrial archaeology, two tin mills, to keep the public out. This is all marked access land on O.S. maps. Around 10 years ago when the D.T.R.G was carrying out an excavation on a third mill, just outside her newtake, she put a very large bull inside the newtake to stop the public getting to the mill via this route on the open weekend being held there. This meant a long walk over the moor to visit the site. Fortunatly the farmer at Shillapark farm let the public through his farm , so they can't all be tared with the same brush.
