That falls slightly outside our Heritage remit :-) However, we have it on good authority that The Jolly Sailors, on the west quay, do a fine range of Samuel Smith’s ales, stouts and lagers, and a Sam Smith’s cider might also be available (it’s pronounced zoider by the way and you probably wouldn’t get served in there sporting a southern accent ;-). The Jolly Sailors is one of two pubs in Whitby that’s subsidised by Sam Smith’s Old Brewery in Tadcaster, and the average price of a pint there is a little over £2. Please drop any change you can afford into the Lifeboat charity boxes on the bar. And if you’re at all interested in the Lifeboat charity the Whitby Lifeboat Museum on the west quay and the lifeboat house on the east quay are also worth a visit.
